The Company

We are an award winning community interest company established in 2008 to encourage increased fitness levels, personal development and healthy lifestyle choices - helping people and communities to feel positive, be active and live well.

We work at a local level with our partners to deliver world class affordable and fun dance, fitness and healthy eating opportunities for all, believing passionately in the areas where we work and growing our business steadily year on year - providing innovative and friendly programmes delivering long term benefits for individuals and communities.

Being a community interest company is fundamental to us, reflecting our belief that opportunities should not be limited because of where people live or by unaffordable prices, and we plough any trading surpluses back into local programmes.

At the heart of our approach is employing all our staff directly, making sure we have a highly trained and qualified team who know and are mainly from the areas where we work. We also have a skilled and experienced board of directors, giving their time for free, who we can draw on for advice and support.

We work constantly as a team to consult locally on what is needed, build partnerships, and to capture and record our impact using the best tools and techniques we can identify

Meet the Team

Bethany

I founded Nouveau Wellbeing CIC after identifying a lack of suitable provision and an ever increasing need within local communities. In 2008 Nouveau was established to encourage increased fitness levels, personal development and healthy lifestyle choices - helping people and communities of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to feel positive, be active and live well.

Before establishing Nouveau I graduated with a first class BA hons degree in Contemporary Dance and have also completed a PGCE in Dance Education and Masters in Professional Dance Practice. I am a graduate from the School for Social Entrepreneurs in London and UnLtd Big Venture Challenge winner 2015.

Nouveau has grown from strength to strength over the past several years with the support of our fantastic team. I have been fortunate to receive several awards including Ernst & Young Future 50, The Gazette Chief Executive Awards - North East Young Business Person of the Year, and David Goldman Prize for Innovation with Newcastle University Business School.

Kimberly

I joined the Nouveau Team in 2010 after graduating from Newcastle College with a Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre. I have seen the enterprise grow significantly and over the past several years and I am now the Team Officer for County Durham and Darlington.

Whilst at Nouveau I have completed additional fitness industry training including level 3 Exercise and Fitness knowledge and Pilates. I have also increased my knowledge of health and wellbeing by attending various training courses including Level 3 Counselling Skills and Applied Suicide Intervention.

Rheannon

I graduated from Teesside University in July 2016 with a First class Honours Degree in Dance. Whilst at University I had the opportunity to focus on working closely with those living with dementia. I joined Nouveau Wellbeing as a practitioner, as it reaches out to the community and provides classes for children, adults and the elderly.

Nouveau Wellbeing has allowed me to experience a range of classes and a shared sense of achievement between myself and my participants.

Emma

I graduated from Teesside University with a BA Hons Dance Degree earlier this year. During my time there I took part in many performances and taught at a range of schools.

I joined the Nouveau Tees Valley Team as a Practitioner after graduating from University. I have gone on to complete fitness industry qualifications and develop my teaching focusing particularly working with pre school and children with disabilities.

Carl

I am a Urban Dance Instructor for Nouveau. I have gained much experience from around the UK and have trained with different break-dancers from around the world. My most recent encounter abroad has been in Vancouver, Canada where I met some break-dancers and joined in on their training sessions for a month.

Breakdancing is a great way to keep extremely fit and socialise. There are always new moves to learn and challenges to be faced but from experience the hard work and training pays off big time. My favourite break move would probably be the windmill as it looks great and can be combined with other power moves with good training.

Rachel

I started dancing at the age of 2 at a local dance school where I studied ballet, tap and modern taking examinations under Northern Counties Dance Teachers Association and taking part in various shows and performances including an appearance on GMTV with Mr Motivator. I studied a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting) at New College Durham, I then moved to Newcastle College where I graduated with a Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre. In 2011 I moved to London where I studied a year intensive Musical Theatre course at the American Musical Theatre Academy of London. I started working at Nouveau in 2013 and have achieved my Level 2 Group Exercise To Music training and Fitsteps instructor training. Alongside working with Nouveau I am currently studying my BA Hons in Musical Theatre.

Rachel

Catherine

I am a qualified nutritionist, tutor and chef with over 30 years of experience in the food industry.
I began my journey straight from leaving school, when I worked in hospital kitchens training to be a chef. From there I moved to London and became a licensee, running a pub restaurant for a number of years. After deciding to move back to the North East, I began running a school kitchen.

Knowing I had practical experience behind me, I made the decision to pursue a more academic career and began studying for my BSc degree in Food Science and Nutrition at Northumbria University. Once qualified, I also studied for and obtained my PGCE from Sunderland University.

I am new to the Nouveau team and my role will involve delivering practical healthy eating sessions within the local community. These courses will be aiming to educate people on how to make healthy lifestyle choices, while cooking on a budget.

Pauline

I joined Nouveau several years ago as a Finance & Admin Assistant and have seen the enterprise grow from strength to strength. I am based at the Head Office in Peterlee and enjoy hearing about the fantastic work the Practitioners are doing within local communities when they pop in to the office each week.

Working in such a community focused organisation inspires me daily and has led me to develop my own personal interest in British Sign Language and Counselling.
