Nouveau Workplace Wellness

Many employers recognise that they have an obligation to the health and wellbeing of their workforce. Research demonstrates that people who exercise on work days are happier, suffer less stress and are more productive.

A study at the University of Bristol (Exercising at work and self reported work performance, 2008) found that exercise helped re-energise and improve concentration, made people feel calmer and particularly assisted with problem solving.

The actual findings derived from 200 participants in the study were:

  • 72% reported improvements in time management.
  • 79% said mental and interpersonal performance improved.
  • 74% said they managed their workload better.

A further study published in 2011 by Stockholm University (Exercise at work boosts productivity, 2011) revealed that 2.5 hours physical activity per week resulted in a reduction in absenteeism, and increased self-assessed productivity.

As well as increasing productivity, Nouveau Workplace Wellness is a great perk for employees looking to live a healthier lifestyle but may struggle to do so for various reasons, such as lack of confidence, knowledge, time, affordability, childcare and so on. The programme supports the employee to change their long term behaviour and gain the benefits of regular physical activity, which include:

  • Supporting long term stable weight maintenance.
  • A 30% to 40% lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
  • 20% to 30% lower risk of depression and dementia.
  • A 30% lower risk of colon cancer and 20% lower risk of breast cancer.
  • Reducing hip fracture risk by up to 68%, and a 30% lower risk of falls by older adults.

Nouveau Workplace Wellness is also a great way of team building and creating better linkages across departments.
